guidelines on Health Screening for Renewal of Work Permit

The Deputy Prime’s Minister issued guidelines on Health Screening for Renewal of Work Permit. These do not apply for EU citizens.

PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION
  1. Download the appropriate ‘Health Screening for Renewal of Work Permit’ application form
  2. Fill in the form in typed or BLOCK LETTERS
  3. Ensure that the employee carries out all the requested investigations as outlined in the application form. Investigations are to be done locally in the PRIVATE SECTOR 
  4. Ensure that the form is DULY COMPLETED by the EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE and the PRIVATE MEDICAL DOCTOR
  5. Write down the applicant’s name, job title and ‘Renewal’ in the subject box of email. e.g. Patel Singh, Carer, Renewal.
  6. The EMPLOYER is to send the completed renewal application form ONLY, as ONE (1) PDF document to [email protected]
  7. Only ONE (1) application per email will be accepted for processing
 
WHO SHOULD FILL THE HEALTH SCREENING FOR RENEWAL OF WORK PERMITS APPLICATION FORM?
 
  1. All foreigners who were born or have lived for 6 months or more in a country reported as very high-risk for tuberculosis applying for jobs that fall in the ‘Other Jobs’ category
All foreigners who were born or have lived for 6 months or more in a country reported as VERY HIGH RISK for tuberculosis (see attached list) need to complete the Health Screening for Renewal of Work Permits Application Form every year for 3 consecutive years (a total of 4 years applying for health screening and working in Malta). Applications need to be sent by the employer to the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Unit (IDCU) on [email protected]
  1. Doctors, Dentists, Midwives, Nurse and other Regulated Healthcare ProfessionsCarers, Child carers,  Dental Chairside assistants; Nannies; Beauty Therapists; Tattooists and Masseurs/Masseuse.
Foreigners who are applying for the above-mentioned jobs, irrespective if they come from a very high-risk tuberculosis country or not, need to complete the Health Screening for Renewal of Work Permit application form for three (3) consecutive years (a total of 4 years applying for health screening and working in Malta). The form needs to be duly filled by a private medical doctor and sent by the employer to [email protected]. Applicants need to have immunity against Hepatitis B prior to renewal and any other investigations as indicated in the relevant application form. Masseuse/Masseurs should fill in their respective renewal form available here.
  1. Food Handlers
All applicants working as Food Handlers (those engaged in the preparation, manufacturing and treatment of a food business and who handles or prepares food intended for human consumption, in terms of the Food Safety Act and Subsidiary Legislation 449.27), irrespective if they come from  very high-risk tuberculosis country or not, need to fill in and send their renewal form for three (3) consecutive renewal years (a total of 4 years applying for health screening and working in Malta). Applicants need to have taken the full course of Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccination prior to renewal and any other investigations as indicated in the relevant application form.
 
Once the documentation is received, including certification of no abnormalities by the private medical doctor, we will forward you approval via email and the employee can proceed to Identity Malta. This can take up to 10 working days to be processed. It is important that the applicant takes a print out of this approval to Identity Malta. Should the health screening application results deem to be unsatisfactory, the results of abnormal investigations need to be included with the application form and submitted on [email protected]
 
COVID-19 
 
Applicants who are renewing their work permit, need to show proof that the vaccination schedule for Covid-19 has been completed in Malta. Applicant is to attach a copy of the Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate with their work permit application form.
